Springfield Gardens High School is actually four schools in one. Excelsior Prepatory High School, George Washington Carver High School, Queens Prepatory High School, and the Prepatory Academy for Writers have replaced the former Springfield Gardens High School, which closed in 2008 because of its poor performance. Now, approximately 1,800 students from diverse backgrounds share the Springfield Gardens campus in Queens.

Each school operates somewhat independently of the others with regard to their curriculum. All teach the basic academic courses, but the emphasis on electives and extra-curricular activates differs. All students share the gym, library, and lunchroom and athletic teams.

The Excelsior school, initially established for at-risk students, provides a small, intimate environment for learning. It adds Spanish and law to the basic education courses. Extra-curricular activities include drumming, gymnastics, drama, hip-hop and step dancing, and a gospel choir.

At George Washington Carver, emphasis is on the sciences. Started as a veterinary school, the school still offers courses for caring for small animals. The school concentrates on the education of young people who come from a troubled family background and offers many opportunities for academic help. Students with special needs are integrated into regular classrooms.

Education at Queens Prepatory Academy is project-based learning that stresses academics, especially writing and editing. Additional courses include robotics, digital photography, dance, visual arts, and drama.

The Prepatory Academy for Writers uses a nontraditional class structure of small groups to work on assignments that prepare them for college. These small classes have limited electives, but students can participate in improv comedy or a student government that settles disputes and hears disciplinary appeals.

The Springfield Gardens post office is located at 21810 Merrick Blvd in Springfield Gardens, New York. This is a government office that has an air cargo and package express services center. The JFK airport is nearby which makes air parcel shipment a breeze.

As with other post office stations, this location is open for business Monday through Friday from 9am to 5:30pm and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm. The last collection of the day for weekdays is 5pm and Saturdays is 1pm. This office is also a passport office, although pictures for passports are not taken at this facility, so visitors need to have their pictures taken elsewhere.

The Springfield Gardens post office has been around for many decades. In fact, the post office is responsible for renaming Spring Fields in 1927, to what is now known as Springfield Gardens. This change in name sparked other area businesses, such as the Long Island Railroad, to rename their facilities. The Long Island Railroad renamed the rail station in Spring Fields shortly after the post office changed their name.

This postal station also has mailboxes for rent. Commonly referred to as post office boxes, a monthly fee is paid in order to maintain the box. People who have a post office box at the Springfield Gardens post office are able to access their boxes anytime of the day or night, even when the post office is closed.

The Springfield Gardens post office is an older building, with an outdated interior design. The lines are generally fairly long, so make sure you have plenty of time when you visit this facility.
