Visitors to the Queens, New York neighborhood of Springfield Gardens can enjoy the area's cultural, historic and recreational attractions. Though much of the region around Springfield Gardens is a residential neighborhood, it still offers shopping, dining and spots in which to get back to nature.
Culture
The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning offers a series of art exhibits, musical and dance performances, and arts workshops and classes. From exhibits featuring young local poets and artists to concerts by international musicians and dancers, this community center always has something going on. The Queens Library Gallery offers changing exhibits featuring works by borough residents. The library’s Langston Hughes Cultural Center presents a regular schedule of live performances as well as new gallery exhibits every four to six weeks.
History
Learn about the history of Jamaica, Queens and the life of anti-slavery activist and constutional signer Rufus King at the King Manor Museum. This historic home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offers interpretive programs and lectures about King’s life and times during the Revolutionary War, as well as guided tours of the house and farm.
Shopping
Head to Rochdale Village to browse the two shopping malls located in this residential community center. The village is home to large department store chains to locally owned shops, restaurants and grocery stores.
Outdoors
Spend an afternoon relaxing in the sun or people watching at Springfield Park. This 23.5-acre park on the east side of Springfield Gardens surrounds a large pond spanned by two bridges, offering scenic views. Sports enthusiasts can play tennis or basketball on the park's multiple courts or play a few innings on the park's two baseball diamonds. Other amenities include a playground, swings and a spray shower.
