Are you looking for some family-friendly recreation and activities in or around Springfield Gardens? From the many amusement parks in the state, the Aqueduct Race Track to local parks and recreation centers, there’s no shortage of things to do, for sure!
The Aqueduct Race Track was opened in September of 1894 in Jamaica, a community in Queens, NY. The track is open daily and boasts some of the most beautiful thoroughbred horses in the state. Admission is always free and parking in the general lot is only two dollars per day. You don’t have to worry about feeding the family before going to the track because there is a restaurant where you can eat trackside. What a great way to spend a day with the family and not spend a ton of money.
Although not located in Queens, it bears mentioning. Coney Island is one of the most famous destinations in the state of New York. The amusement park located at Coney Island is internationally known, with good reason. Admission to the amusement park is always free. Tickets are purchased to enjoy any of the rides or patrons can choose to purchase wristbands which will get you on any ride for free. Many of the rides at Coney Island have been up since the early 1900’s.
Rockaway Beach is just minutes away and has an amazing 12 miles of beach and a boardwalk. The kids can play in the sand while you and your spouse take a stroll on the boardwalk.
For the sports enthusiasts, Shea Stadium is home to the New York Mets and is located on Roosevelt Avenue in Queens.
In the summer months, the Queens Botanical Gardens is a sight you have to see. Located on Main Street, it’s just a short ride from Springfield Gardens. Another must-see in the area is the Socrates Sculpture Park at Broadway and Vernon Blvd. This is the only sculpture park that has full-sized sculptures that you can actually get up close and personal with.
